End-of-the-year review 2022

🇬🇧 Especially the end of the year was an emotional roller coaster for Heathland Knits. My followers on Instagram exploded due to a little real, I was attending to my very first (and bitter cold) Christmas Market, and I managed to publish a pattern that got me on the first page of the Ravelry pattern search. I am not used to so much attention, and I am especially not used to the not-so-nice sides that come with that. I was called an “idiot” because of showing a video on how to use a lucet fork – and I still do honestly not get how such an innocent little video can cause that. Also assumptions about me were spread in public without any context or background knowledge.

Still, the love and positive feedback I got for my knitting, my yarn, and the designs are outweighing the not-so-nice experiences by far! And I am endlessly thankful that I can do what I do. I am loving the fiber arts. I love to design.

For 2023, I wish that people would think a little bit more before they say something that might be hurtful for others – especially in the (a-) social networks. I wish more consideration in actions, more respect and acceptance of each other, and a “benefit of the doubt” mindset. Often someone is not doing something with evil in mind.

🇩🇪 Vor allem das Ende des Jahres war für Heathland Knits ein Wechselbad der Gefühle. Die Anzahl der “Follower”auf Instagram explodierten aufgrund eines eigentlich kleinen Reels, ich war auf meinem allerersten (und bitterkalten) Weihnachtsmarkt, und ich habe es geschafft, eine Anleitung zu veröffentlichen, die mich auf die erste Seite der Ravelry-Anleitungssuche brachte. Ich bin so viel Aufmerksamkeit nicht gewöhnt, und vor allem nicht an die nicht so netten Seiten, die damit einhergehen. Ich wurde als “Idiotin” beschimpft, weil ich ein Video über die Verwendung einer Strick-Gabel gezeigt habe – und ich verstehe ehrlich gesagt immer noch nicht, wie ein so unschuldiges kleines Video so etwas verursachen kann. Und es wurden Vermutungen über mich in der Öffentlichkeit verbreitet, ohne jeglichen Kontext oder Hintergrundwissen.

Doch die Freude und das positive Feedback, die ich für mein Stricken, mein Garn und die Designs bekommen habe, überwiegen bei weitem die nicht so schönen Erfahrungen! Und ich bin unendlich dankbar, dass ich tun kann, was ich tue. Ich liebe das Arbeiten mit Fasern. Und ich liebe es, zu entwerfen.

Für 2023 wünsche ich mir, dass die Menschen ein bisschen mehr nachdenken, bevor sie etwas sagen, das andere verletzen könnte – vor allem in den (a-)sozialen Netzwerken. Ich wünsche mir mehr Rücksichtnahme im Handeln, mehr Respekt und Akzeptanz füreinander und eine “Im Zweifel für den Angeklagten”-Mentalität. Oft tut jemand etwas nicht in böser Absicht.

Ich wünsche allen einen reibungslosen Übergang ins Jahr 2023! Ich hoffe, wir sehen uns dort!

🇳🇱 Het einde van het jaar was voor Heathland Knits werkelijk een achtbaan. Het aantal “volgers” op Instagram explodeerde door wat een kleine Real had moeten zijn, ik stond op mijn allereerste (en bitterkoude) kerstmarkt, en ik slaagde erin een tutorial te publiceren die me op de eerste pagina van de Ravelry tutorial search bracht. Ik ben niet gewend aan zoveel publiciteit, en zeker niet aan de niet zo leuke kanten die daarbij horen. Ik werd een “idioot” genoemd omdat ik een video liet zien over het gebruik van een breivork – en ik begrijp eerlijk gezegd nog steeds niet hoe zo’n onschuldig filmpje zoiets kan veroorzaken. En er werden veronderstellingen over mij gedaan in het openbaar zonder enige context of achtergrondkennis.

Maar het plezier en de positieve feedback die ik heb gekregen voor mijn breiwerk, garen en ontwerpen wegen zwaarder dan deze minder leuke ervaringen! En ik ben enorm dankbaar dat ik kan doen wat ik doe. Ik werk graag met stof en garen. En ik hou van ontwerpen.

Voor 2023 zou ik willen dat mensen wat meer nadenken voordat ze iets zeggen dat anderen kan kwetsen – vooral op (a)sociale media. Ik wens meer consideratie bij activiteiten, meer respect en acceptatie voor elkaar en een “geef de beschuldigde het voordeel van de twijfel”-mentaliteit. Vaak doet iemand iets niet te kwader trouw.

Ik wens iedereen een soepele overgang naar 2023! Ik hoop je daar te ontmoeten!
