My Westknits knitwear (20/21)

🇬🇧 Even though I’ve actually been knitting since I was a kid, I discovered Ravelry and the global knitting community relatively late, so I didn’t discover many of the great designers until late 2019 or early 2020 – which amazingly happened completely independent of any Corona lockdowns.

I’ve been a fan of Stephen West and Westknits designs since I discovered them in late 2019. For that reason, it’s not particularly surprising that I’ve been knitting a lot of Westknits over the past two years. So I thought it was about time to show them off here.

Skystorm

One of the three Westknits 2020 Yarn Along pattern featuring yarn from Fru Valborg. I am wearing this one a lot, maybe because it was my first Westknits Shawl.

The project is documented on Ravelry (you will need a login to see the page).

Slipstravaganza

The 2020 Mystery KnitAlong shawl, I wrote about here. As mentioned, I used Garn Stories Merino for this shawl.

The project is documented on Ravelry (you will need a login to see the page).

Slipstravaganza

I knitted the Slipstravaganza a second time during Christmas 2020 using winter colors, some alpaca-camel blend yarn from Lamana and Lang Yarn, and adapting the pattern to close the holes after the honeycomb section of the pattern. The result is a very light yet cozy warm winter shawl, that I love!

The project is documented on Ravelry (you will need a login to see the page).

Honey Seed Hat

Beginning of 2021, this was my first test knit that I was allowed to do for Stephen. The honey seeds hat is part of the book “Painting Honeycombs”.

As shown on the picture, I used Onion and Noro yarn for this hat. The Noro yarn is resulting in a nice fade of the contrast color. I like the little dots in the contrast parts. Unfortunately, my head is too small for this hat, so I gifted it away.

The project is documented on Ravelry (you will need a login to see the page).

Snow Flurries Hat

This one I love to wear. Right now we have chilly two degrees Celsius and a lot of mist and fog outside. The hat is keeping my ears toasty warm. And the knitting was also fun.

The pattern ist part of the first volume of “Hiberknitting”. A nice book for some winter knitting.

The project is documented on Ravelry (you will need a login to see the page).

Painting Columns Shawl

This was one of the test knits I did for Westknits. The pattern was published only recently as part of the book “Painting Shawls”.

I actually LOVE that shawl. The stripes ripple down the shawl and there are endless possibilities how to combine main and contrast color. I even did a coloring sheet to try out some options. You can download the file by clicking on the small preview and afterwards saving the image.

The project is documented on Ravelry (you will need al login to see the page).

Windschief

I knitted this hat during spring 2021. It is actually the first knitted piece using my own yarn, I now realize.

I dyed the yarn on special wish for a person that wanted to have a hat that is not black or grey but also not too shouty. I and the other person were very pleased with the result!

You can find some more pictures and info about the yarn, here.

The project is documented on Ravelry (you will need a login to see the page).

Squiggle & Stripes

This shawl was knitted during spring 2021 on behalf of a not-knitting friend, who wanted to give a special birthday gift.

The project is documented on Ravelry (you will need a login to see the page).

Slippy V Triangle

One of the 2021 Yarn Along pattern featuring yarn from West Wool and Spincycle. The originally distributed yarn colors were not summery enough for my taste. So I changed the colors while keeping the yarn brands. I love the fade of the Spincycle yarn!

The project is documented on Ravelry (you will need a login to see the page).

Thunderbolts & Lightning

Another pattern of the three Westknits 2020 Yarn Along pattern. This pattern originally features yarn from Undercover Otter.

But since I saw in summer 2021 that someone on Instagram has knitted the pattern from moody black yarn I had to do that, too. Therefore this one is knitted using La Bien Aimee Merino Sport in “Moorland”. Isn’t it gorgeous?

The project is documented on Ravelry (you will need a login to see the page).

Shawlography

The 2021 Mystery KnitAlong shawl that I knitted from my own hand-dyed yarn.

I learned from the first mystery knitalong that I am not a fan of large openings in a shawl. Therefore I adaoted the pattern immediately. You can read the full story and all information about the yarn, here.

Of course, the project is also documented on Ravelry (you will need a login to see the page).

Spiraling Cables Triangle

This shawl was knitted during Christmas 2021. It was one of the two designs chosen for the Westknits HiberknitAlong.

I used my own BFL DK yarn for this one and I am rather pleased with the result!

The pattern ist part of the second volume of “Hiberknitting”. A good follow up on the first one.

The project is documented on Ravelry (you will need a login to see the page).

I have no commercial connection with Stephen West or Westknits, the designer of the pattern. I wrote this post because I like the designs. I do not get any compensation. For the tests I get the pattern; otherwise it is difficult to test them ;o)
