Joji Fall KAL 2022
🇬🇧 As the last years, I was very much looking forward to the autumn knit along from Joji Locatelli, the Joji Fall KAL. It started on the 1th of September and is still ongoing till 30th of November. I decided to participate with two shawl designs and one cowl. Yes, that is a lot, but I could not decide what to knit.
The first design I chose is the Lone Skein Shawl. This lightweight shawl is knitted from only one skein of yarn. I decided on one skein of my Rooted Merino yarn in the color “Golden Amber”. So far, I am rather happy with the result.
With a bit of speed knitting I hope to finish within a week and have time to take the shawl for my upcoming holidays at the beach for some pictures.
Update 1: Finished within my set deadline but forgot to take some good beach pictures. I just managed with my one skein using fingering yarn of 400m/100g but did not do a swatch. I skipped the tassels and increased the numbers of picot bobbles at the edge (CO3, BO9). Love how the lace worked out.

The second design I wanted to knit is the Lightweight Hipster Shawl. This shawl is designed to be knitted from one skein of yarn, as well, but with a bit thicker yarn then fingering weight. Therefore, I will use another skein of Rooted Merino in color “Citrine” and combine it with the super airy Feather in the new color “High Voltage”. I am super curious how this combination will turn out!
In my planning, I will have knitted at least these two shawls before the Westknits MKAL of this years starts!
Update 2: Two more weeks to go till the MKAL and I am also done with this little gem. The shawl turned out really nice: I knitted all sections except for the crossed stitches with both threads held together. The crossed stitches I knitted with only the main color. The contrast of the marled sections and the crossed stitches is clearly visible and light and airy, while the rest of the shawl is fluffy and warm.
Even though I sticked to the given needle size and even though I used the full 400m/100g of my yarn, I did not manage to kit the full shawl that requires only 360m of yarn, according to the pattern. At the end, I did not knit the full amount of Garter ridges at the end to have some yarn left for the tassels. The details of my Marled Lightweight Hipster Shawl can be found on my Ravelry page.
The third item to knit will be a practical cowl, that I had in mind for a while: The Blurry Cowl.
Update 3: I used a new yarn base that I was eager to try out. It is a base of yak, silk, and merino. The yarn has a very nice stitch definition and the colors are vibrant! I will consider adding the yarn base to my standard bases.
The Blurry cowl is a nice narrow but not too tight cowl with a beautiful bandana-like shape. It is really a quick project, and the “effort-result-ratio” is great. It took me not even a week from start to the washed and blocked finished item. The three different pattern sections make the knitting process varied. I might knit another one to have some variation the coming winter. All the details are on my Ravelry page.
New this year: It is a mini challenge planned for each of the KAL month.
For September the “One Skein Parade” was planned. The challenge is to knit an item from only one single skein of yarn. I joined this one with my Lone Skein Shawl.
October has the topic “Knit free”. The goal is to knit a cowl without spending money. Joji published a free pattern for everyone – the Knit free cowl. It is not necessary to sign up for this specific part of the KAL, so anyone can still join for this one till the end of October! The requirement for the participation are that the project must cost nothing. The pattern is free, and the yarn must come from the stash, or leftovers, or such. To join just post a picture of the FO in the specific Ravelry thread.
November is for the “The Scrappy Project”. The goal is to knit one of the registered items from at least 2/3 leftover yarn that is laying around.

🇩🇪 Wie in den letzten Jahren habe ich mich sehr auf das Herbst-KnitAlong von Joji Locatelli gefreut, den Joji Fall KAL. Er begann am 1. September und läuft noch bis zum 30. November. Ich habe mich entschlossen, mit zwei Tüchern und einem Cowl teilzunehmen. Ja, das ist eine Menge, aber ich konnte mich nicht entscheiden, was ich stricken will.
Das erste Design, das ich ausgewählt habe, ist der Lone Skein Shawl. Dieses leichte Tuch wird aus nur einem Strang Garn gestrickt. Ich habe mich für einen Strang des Rooted Merino Garns in der Farbe “Golden Amber” entschieden. Bis jetzt bin ich mit dem Ergebnis recht zufrieden.
Mit ein bisschen Schnellstricken hoffe ich, den Schal passend für meinen bevorstehenden Urlaub am Strand fertig zu haben und für ein paar Fotos mitzunehmen.
Update 1: Ich bin innerhalb der mir gesetzten Frist fertig geworden, habe aber vergessen, ein paar gute Strandfotos zu machen. Ich bin gerade so mit einem Strang Garn mit 400m/100g ausgekommen, habe aber vorher auch keine Maschenprobe gemacht. Ich habe daher die Quasten weggelassen und die Anzahl der Picot-Knötchen am Rande erhöht (CO3, BO9). Die Kante ist auch sehr schön geworden.
Das Tuch ist ein hübsches kleines Ding! Das Raverly-Projekt ist hier zu sehen.
Das zweite Design, das ich stricken wollte, ist der Lightweight Hipster Shawl. Auch dieses Tuch wird eigentlich aus nur einem Strang Garn gestrickt, allerdings mit einem etwas dickeren Garn als dem leichten Sockengarn. Deshalb habe ich einen Strang Rooted Merino in der Farbe “Citrine” zusammen mit dem super luftigen Feather in der neuen Farbe “High Voltage” als Beilauffaden kombiniert verwendet. Ich bin schon sehr gespannt, wie diese Kombination am Ende aussehen wird!
Nach meiner Planung werde ich mindestens diese beiden Schals gestrickt haben, bevor das diesjährige Westknits MKAL beginnt!
Update 2: Noch zwei Wochen bis zum MKAL und ich bin auch mit diesem kleinen Schmuckstück fertig. Das Tuch ist wirklich schön geworden: Ich habe alle Abschnitte bis auf die Abschnitte mit den überkreuzten Maschen mit beiden Garnen gestrickt. Die Abschnitte mit den überkreuzten Maschen habe ich nur mit der Hauptfarbe gestrickt. Der Kontrast zwischen den marmorierten Teilen und den gekreuzten Maschen ist deutlich sichtbar und leicht und luftig, während der Rest des Schals flauschig und warm ist.
Obwohl ich mich an die angegebene Nadelstärke gehalten habe und obwohl ich die vollen 400m/100g meines Garns verwendet habe, habe ich es nicht geschafft, den vollständigen Schal zu stricken, für den laut Anleitung eigentlich nur 360m Garn benötigt werden. Ich habe nicht die volle Anzahl Reihen kraus rechts am Ende des Tuchs gestrickt, um genug Garn für die Quasten übrig zu haben. Das dritte Projekt ist ein praktischer Cowl geworden, den ich schon eine Weile im Hinterkopf hatte: The Blurry Cowl.
Update 3: Ich habe eine neue Garnbasis verwendet, die ich unbedingt ausprobieren wollte. Es ist eine Basis aus Yak, Seide und Merino. Das Garn hat eine sehr schöne Maschendefinition und die Farben sind leuchtend! Ich werde in Erwägung ziehen, die Garnbasis zu meinen Standardgarnen hinzuzufügen.
Der Blurry Cowl ist ein schöner schmaler, aber nicht zu enger Cowl mit einer schönen bandana-ähnlichen Form. Es ist wirklich ein schnelles Projekt, und das “Aufwand-Ergebnis-Verhältnis” ist großartig. Vom Anfang bis zum gewaschenen und geblockten Endprodukt habe ich nicht einmal eine Woche gebraucht. Die drei verschiedenen Musterabschnitte machen das Stricken abwechslungsreich. Vielleicht stricke ich noch ein weiteres Exemplar, um im kommenden Winter etwas Abwechslung zu haben. Neu in diesem Jahr: Es ist eine Mini-Challenge für jeden der KAL-Monate geplant.
Für September war die “One Skein Parade” geplant. Die Herausforderung besteht darin, ein beim KAL registriertes Design mit nur einem einzigen Garnstrang zu stricken. Ich habe mich mit meinem “Lone Skein Shawl” beteiligt.
Der Oktober steht unter dem Motto “Knit free”. Das Ziel ist es, einen Cowl zu stricken, ohne Geld auszugeben. Joji hat eine kostenlose Anleitung für alle veröffentlicht – den Knit free Cowl. Es ist nicht notwendig, sich für diesen speziellen Teil des KALs anzumelden, also kann jeder noch bis Ende Oktober mitmachen! Die Voraussetzung für die Teilnahme ist, dass das Projekt nichts kosten darf. Die Anleitung ist kostenlos, und das Garn muss aus dem eigenen Vorrat oder aus Resten stammen. Um mitzumachen, kann man einfach ein Bild des fertigen Objekts in den entsprechenden Ravelry-Thread posten.
Der November steht im Zeichen des “The Scrappy Project”. Das Ziel ist es, eines der angemeldeten Designs zu mindestens 2/3 aus Garnresten zu stricken, die man man herumliegen hat.
