Cheshire Cat shawl – machine knit version

🇬🇧 Not quite a scarf, not quite a shawl, it is just a simple little knitted thing in-between the two that can be easily knitted from one to infinite skeins of yarn. Let the yarn shine with simple stocking stitch and dare to show off the “wrong side” too!
This small, scarf-like shawl is the machine knit hybrid of the hand-knitted “One skein Cheshire Cat” and “The Simple Thing” shawls.
It is worked sideways in rows starting and ending at a narrow tip. The original “One skein Cheshire Cat shawl” is worked in stocking stitch with flat edges. The “The Simple Thing” is originally worked by hand in garter stitch with i-cord edges. To make it as easy as possible to do this shawl on a knitting machine I picked the best from the two patterns: The machine-knit version is using stocking stitch. It features a ribbing along the shoulder edge to give it some stability and a small i-cord edge for the lower edge. If you prefer to be as close to the original “The Simple Thing”, the garter stitch for the body of the shawl can be achieved by hand manipulation of the stitches, using a garter bar, or using a transfer (or even garter) carriage. Following the description on how to do the i-cord edge on the left side of the shawl, an i-cord can also be worked on the right side instead of the ribbing. Like this, the pattern will be similar to the original, hand-knitted “The Simple Thing”.
